Use past investment memos to teach AI how your firm evaluates deals

We customized Recoup's free Deal Ingestion Skill with a client in one session, using past investment memos to reflect the firm's curves and investment standards.

In one session, we helped the CEO of a company that buys song catalogs customize an AI agent skill around his firm's investment standards. We started with Recoup's free Deal Ingestion Skill, brought in three past investment memos, and used them to work through what the firm's version needed to do differently.

By the end, the firm had its own customized skill: proprietary IP built around the way its team evaluates deals.

We started with Recoup's free Deal Ingestion Skill

Recoup had already built the general-purpose skill. It's free for anyone to use as a starting point for reviewing a catalog deal: pulling together data-room material and producing a draft investment memo.

An agent skill is a reusable set of instructions and supporting tools that tells an AI agent how to do a particular job. In this case, the job was turning deal material into something an investment team could review.

A real deal showed us what needed to change

We ran the skill on a real catalog deal and reviewed the draft memo together. The skill could produce a memo, but the draft didn't yet reflect the firm's format or the assumptions behind its investment decisions.

Three past memos made the firm's standards visible

The client brought three of the team's past investment memos into the session. We used them as references alongside the new draft.

The comparison exposed missing financing rates and loan repayment schedules needed for the return calculation. It also showed that revenue-decay curves needed to vary by genre and vintage. One curve for every catalog wouldn't reflect the firm's approach.

The past memos gave us specific examples to work from. We could point to a difference, discuss the firm's approach, and use that to customize the skill.

We saved that approach in the firm's own version

Together, we saved the firm's curves and investment standards in its customized version of the Recoup Deal Ingestion Skill. Those choices became part of a reusable skill the team could apply to another deal.

The free Recoup skill remains a general-purpose starting point. The firm's customized version captures its own approach and is proprietary IP it owns.

You can start with a skill that already does the basic job, then put your effort into the judgment, assumptions, and methods that make the work yours.

The next deal will test the customized skill

The next deal is a chance to test those changes. Review the memo's source data, calculations, and assumptions. When you find a gap, save the correction in the skill so it's available when you use it on another deal.
